Christmas can be a difficult time for those in need but with a little help from the community we can try to make it a little easier. It can be as simple as having a look through your pantry for any extra food you might have to spare, or picking up a couple of extra cans of food while you’re out grocery shopping. The Friends in Need Food Bank is dedicated to providing assistance to the hungry in the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows communities as well as raising awareness concerning hunger issues and providing information and referrals when needed. In addition to canned food, they also provide the needy with fresh fruit, vegetables and other necessities. They are located at 8-22726 Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge and are open from Tuesday to Thursday. Together we can help those less fortunate and spread generosity throughout the Maple Ridge community.
With the excitement of the upcoming holidays, it’s easy to forget that Christmas can be a difficult time for those in need. Every year the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association helps to provide a brighter Christmas for families less fortunate with their Coats for Kids campaign. In lieu of celebrating this 20 year strong campaign, giving dates have been extended for ‘20 Days of Giving’ from November 13 to December 2 with drop off points all over the lower mainland. This year Coats for Kids really need your help and is specifically looking for jackets for tweens and teens ages 12 – 18 years old.
Portrait Homes is proudly participating in the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) annual Coats for Kids campaign to help make a difference in our community and we hope that you can show your support by dropping off donations to one of our locations listed below.
Portrait Homes Headoffice: 1100 – 21320 Westminster Highway, Richmond. Open Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm.
Nelson Peak Sales Centre: 22850 136th Avenue, Maple Ridge. Open Saturday to Wednesday 12pm – 5pm.
If you’re looking for a fun and scary Halloween activity, check out the Glenhurst Manor Haunted House! While Halloween is fun for trick or treaters, it can be a scary and dangerous time for pets which is why it’s always a good reminder to keep your pets safe inside the house until the Halloween festivities are over.

A visit to Laity farm this weekend is fun for the whole family!
Laity Farms located at 21145 128th Avenue in Maple Ridge offers over 18 acres of farmland to explore and makes for a perfect weekend outing. Boasting a huge pumpkin patch for sourcing your perfect jack-o-lantern, many farm animals for the kids to visit with and an acre long corn maze to wander through. Put your boots on, enjoy some fresh air and enjoy this fall season by visiting your local pumpkin patch…because Halloween just doesn’t feel the same without a carved pumpkin sitting on the porch!
For more information please visit the Laity Pumpkin Patch website.
If you’re like me you enjoy nothing more than adding local seasonal food to the Thanksgiving table. We are lucky to live in an area abundant with options.
Think about adding some fresh cheese or butter to the table (great for getting that wonderful colour on the outside of the turkey). Check out Cheesecrafters where they make their own selections of Jersey Blue (my personal favourite), Havarti, Cheddar, Brie and more. Your kids can watch through the window as they make the cheese while you do the shopping.
Need some fresh cranberries? Hopcott’s Farm is having their annual Cranberry day on Oct. 10 where you can taste the cranberry products, tour the bog and of course purchase cranberries in bulk or in bags…they also have lot’s of activities for kids.
The Haney Farmers Market is also on this weekend with a great selection of pumpkins, apples, pies, wine and brussel sprouts. Come on down to Memorial Peace Park between 9-2 on Saturday. I recommend getting there earlier in the day for the best selection.
Other options for fresh treats for the table can be found on the circle farm brochure…
Enjoy your shopping and I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends.
Maple Ridge is not just a pretty place…there are always lots of fun and interesting activities going on and this weekend is no exception!
Do you have a creative side that you would like to explore? This Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, local artist Robi Smith will be hosting a Free Lantern-Making Workshop! Put your creative talents to use and make your own lantern. Finished lanterns will be installed in the park during the Rivers Day and Culture Days weekend for all to admire. Not just for the young of heart, this activity is open to all ages and requires no experience. For more information please visit Robi Smith’s website for more information.
If you’re more keen on taking advantage of the great weather we will be having this weekend, then you might be interested in participating in the Bike to Farms tour happening this Sunday on September 6th. A leisurely 15km bike ride along mostly quiet roads in Maple Ridge, get to know your local farmers and learn more about where our food comes from. There will only be two groups participating in the tour with a maximum of 25 participants in each so make sure to register sooner rather than later!

We take great pride in not only the homes we build but the relationship that we build with all of our Purchasers. We are very humbled to once again receive the Avid Gold Award for the highest Customer Satisfaction in BC in 2015. The Avid award is particularly important to us as the ratings are collected and calculated by a third party and are presented to the builder scoring highest on the New Home Move-in Experience survey. The awards ceremony will be held in Toronto this year in August. Check out our videos to hear first hand what our owners are saying.

This past Friday at our annual Trade, Supplier and Consultant’s Recognition Luncheon, we celebrated excellence in Safety and Customer Service and awarded individuals or organizations who we feel had gone above and beyond in the last year. Among the award announcements were a few for our own staff with Ron Breidt and Jamie Boyd being recognized for outstanding customer service. This year we also had a special award made for an individual who personally goes above and beyond in making sure our every need is met.
